Downhill, uphill, feathers, birds and flowers.

Today I have been busy making blocks for June and July Scandibee 2016. I like all of them, but the feather was quite challenging. I wonder if I'd rather make them by foundation piecing. 

The bird is a finished needle turn block from Sarah Fielke.

I dag har eg jobba iherdig med bytteblokker. Dei var morosame å sy, men særleg fjørene var litt utfordrande. Eg trur eg vil anbefale å sy slike på papir pga dei skrå bitane (sjølv om dei er laga på ein smart måte ved hjelp av panel).

Elles blir det mykje rydding/kasting/systematisering. Eg har teke syrommet ein gong siste veka (rot igjen i dag). Elles sender eg vekk ting til bruktbutikk, loppemarked og Fretex.

Ein ting eg skal jobbe med i sommar, er å bli flinkare å fotografere. Eg har investert i ei handbok på norsk, så får vi sjå korleis det går.

A good start on the "autumn" lap quilt, nine blocks done.

Eg har fått laga 9 blokker på haustteppet så langt. Det er faktisk veldig moro å sy desse blokkene. Og det er veldig moro å få brukt dei "stygge" stoffa, og sjå at dei blir fine når dei blir oppkutta (finare di mindre bitane er :))

No er det vinterferie, og eg har eit spennande prosjekt på gong denne veka, ja, det gjeld eit innkjøp...

Elles så er det meir rydding i stoffa, og i mykje anna. Eg får eit ekstra gir når sola skin!

Browns, autumn colours, old stash and a yummi new bundle!

What I'm working on these days are scraps, old fabrics ("fuglies..."), and some tidying up. 

How many times, or how often, does one have to go through all the stash, to systemize a.s.o?

Now I have got a new system, organizing from colour, except the Denyse Schmidt (which has to stay in a special place, and all the civil war fabric, which is also in its own place. 

And small scraps are getting ironed and put into boxes by colour. I absolutely have a soft spot for scraps!

February's colour is brown, and I have made a slab for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2016.

One of my nieces has turned 50, and I want to make her a quilt. She loves the autumn palette. What I'm aiming at is to use some of the old ..uglies and combine with some more modern, and make a Scrappy trip around the world, ala Bonnie Hunter.

And I have got  some very yummy low volumes from ModernQuilter at Etsy. The name is Abacus by Alison Glass for Andover Fabrics.These fabrics are not to be found in Norway, I think, as I have asked here and there.

Althoug I'm on a stash diet, I have to buy some basics....

No har eg hatt ånden nokre dagar til å rydde gjennom stoffa mine, for n'e gong. No har eg samla stoffa etter farge, med unnatak av civil war-stoffa og Denyse Schmidt-stoffa. 

Så stryk eg mindre restar og fyller dei i boksar etter fargetype. Det blir skikkeleg innbydande!

Når niesa mi rundar 50 og likar haustfargar, passar det godt å sy ein kvilt til henne av dei gamle stoffa, blanda med nokre meir moderne. Mønsteret eg er begynt på er Scrappy Trip around the World ala Bonnie Hunter, Quiltville.

Og til alle butikkane som ikkje tek inn Abacus av Alison Glass, det er veldig synd! Finare low volume- stoff skal leitast lenge etter. Eg måtte berre bestille frå Etsy og butikken Modern Quilter. Eg har no som regel å kjøpe mest mogeleg lokalt, men av og til må ein utom Noreg for å finne det ein vil ha (eg har spurt rundt um...)

Javel, korleis gjekk det med stoffdietten? Jau takk, det går fint, men litt basic må ein fylle på med, det er vel alle einige om!

Rainbow colours!

Etter nokre ferdige ufoar har eg i januar jobba ein del med å lære meg nye ting, og deriblant sying på papir. Dette har eg drive mykje med tidlegare, særleg på Civil War-blokkene, men eg har aldri gått systematisk til verks for å lære det. No studerer eg nokre leksjonar på Craftsy, og der er mykje å lære.

Her er Cofetti star block, som ein finn gratismønster på her. Det er ganske så hot med friske fargar og low volume no, og det er utruleg kva det gjer med humøret på mørkaste vinteren med gladfargar. Eg er hekta på lågvolum-stoff, det er så massse fint der ute.......

Stjerna i snøen er no heilt ferdig. Det var så moro å kvilte den! Denne er som før nemnt frå Sarah Fielke si bok, Little Quilts.

Pluss-løparen er også heilt ferdig. Dette er eit samsyprosjekt på Instagram og Facebook. Eg får ikkje fram kviltinga på denne, diverre, men kosa meg her og med forskjellige typar design.

Finally I had some time to sew this weekend. I have joined Laila in a low volume plus quilt sew along. These blocks are for sure addictive! Look here at Laila's blog for more info, in case you would like to join too. I have tested out the mini version, and will go for that in the first project.  And after that I have a plan...

 Together with Turid I have joined a Scandibee sew along. The first queen bee has asked for a couple of "slabs", and here I have done som testing. This one will be for myself. I will try to follow along the rainbow scrap challenge, the colour for January is blue. Maybe I will make a couple of slabs each month, as I have quite a big amount of scraps, and it is so enjoyable to "make one's own" fabric from scraps.

I have also tried paper foundation piecing without touching the paper. I have never done this before. I will show you how to do this in a future blog post. This is a Mini, and is quilted in a big spiral.

This will be finished tonight as I follow Mammon on TV.

Denyse Schmidt's old fabric line Katie Jump Rope has been released once more, and I had a kick off transaction with Etsy to get these very cheerful and wonderful fabrics. 

But now I have bought enough fabric for many months, and will not buy anything for 6 months. Sorry you nice shop ladies out there.....

Sew my Stash 2016!  This is an Instagram happening. I like it. I will do it. I will not just collect and cherish my fabric, I will make nice things from them.
